AIR membership proposal

This is a proposal for the community on how to potentially structure AIR’s membership. We would like to post a finalized version in September 2024. Please get in touch with feedback before that, so we can make things better. Keep in mind that we are a small group of volunteers doing our best to move forward.

Proposal:

AIR currently offers two types of annual memberships, a passive and an active one (50€/100€). All AIR members are expected to adhere to our code of conduct in written form. We are aware of cost differences around the world and hope to soon have a model that can accommodate particular needs.

Passive member: Anyone who formally commits to adherence of our code of conduct and pays the annual fee is eligible for passive membership. Passive members receive visibility through our networks, have access to AIR activities without a cost (seminars, public meetings, etc.), are listed in our website, and may suggest new activities or projects to the AIR board. Passive members contribute to the functioning of AIR and to building a wider community.

Active member: Anyone may express their interest in this type of membership, by sending a motivation letter and requesting an interview with the AIR board. Currently, AIR is composed of a small group of volunteers, and the board will only extend invitations for active membership to a limited number of individuals who express interest. The determination will be made under consideration of value alignment, adherence to AIR’s current vision, and ways of working. The AIR board will continue to consider a revision of this procedure as AIR grows. Besides all the benefits of the passive members, active members may list AIR as their affiliation in publications, use shared research tools, and propose and contribute to activities and working groups. They are required to participate in regular meetings and can propose new directions, thus contributing to shaping the future course of AIR.

Lastly, the board consists of active members, and only active members may apply for positions in the board. They lead the association and take responsibility for its workings, documents, and updating its statutes. One general assembly is scheduled every year and new members of the board are chosen then, points for the assembly may be requested by active and passive members. Extraordinary assemblies may be requested by the board.
